Lesson One: BE KIND TO YOU
Wear your misfit socks and sit together as a group. Have each person say or draw something that makes them happy. Also, say or draw a picture of something that you like about yourself. Maybe it's your hair, your laugh or the way you sing. Standing out from the crowd is a good thing.

Lesson Two: BE KIND TO OTHERS
Wear your misfit socks and sit together. Have an open conversation about other ways kids can be KIND to others. Draw a picture of someone they have been kind to What was their act of kindness? OR draw what KINDNESS looks like to them OR practice OR draw a picture of a SMILE, people smiling or waving OR have kids bring items that they can stuff in a sock and donate to a homeless shelter: toothbrush, soap, more socks, mints, shampoo, etc. OR host a sock drive.

Lesson Three: PRACTICE POLITE WORDS
Practice saying Please and Thank you with your group OR have fun using your manners attending a tea, luncheon or dinner out. You can also create a theme event or use Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick's Day, or any other holiday or theme to learn more about your polite words.

Lesson Four: SHARE and BE FAIR
Sharing is so hard for young children, knowing that they want what they want when they want it. Practice basic SHARING rules, such as waiting your turn, sharing art supplies, working as a team earning a patch, planting flowers, playing a game together, create a potluck or cookie exchange and share your items with each other.

Lesson Five: CLEAN is KEEN Being CLEAN and cleaning up shows respect and teaches children respect for themselves and respect for others. Have the kids clean up after a meeting, luncheon, tea, or any activity.

Lesson Six: BE A GOOD FRIEND
DRAW a picture of you and a friend or show a picture of you and your friend. What do you and your friend like to do together? What was the nicest thing a friend did for you? You draw, write or talk about it.

WANT TO EARN PATCH AT ONE MEETING USING A THEME?
Follow the steps below to add a theme to earning your Misfit Manners patch OR attend a luncheon or dinner out to earn your patch.

STEP ONE: DECIDE WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO WORK ON YOUR MISFIT MANNERS
Talk to your friends or group to see if you want to have a Misfit Manners themed get together or attend a luncheon.

STEP TWO: EVENT PLANNING
Will the event be a luncheon, dinner out, or tea party? If you are preparing the event for the attendees, make sure you have enough adults and parents helping by being at the table or to serve. Don't forget to wear your misfit socks and most importantly have fun!

Decorations and MENU
Decide if you are going to assign each person to bring something or if you are going to create a menu and have "shoppers" for the event. Use the packet to assist you in picking a menu or come up with something unique. Have fun with the menu/desserts and the decorations. Make it special and create a theme that is inviting to everyone. You can also have each person create an invitation and swap with the person next to them. Use the packet for ideas and samples of place settings and invitations. (sharing)

STEP THREE:THE EVENT
Wear MISFIT SOCKS to the event, in keeping with the theme of celebrating differences.
To “dress up.” The attendees need to look presentable because that shows respect for themselves and respect for others. If you are having a valentine theme, bring Valentines for the attendees. You can provide a list of the attendees, if needed. (sharing)

LUNCHEON, DINNER OR TEA PARTY
To begin a conversation, each person will go around the table introducing themselves and tell the group something special about you or that you are proud of. This takes a lot of courage, but it is an important life skill.

Students will practice their good table manners throughout the luncheon, dinner, or tea party. List of table manners is on page one of the packet.

OPTIONAL: VALENTINE SWAP OR CRAFT ACTIVITY
The event will conclude with a Valentine swap or small craft activity, like making cards or coloring sheet. You can decorate with paper Misfit Socks in the room or have each person bring a mismatch sock to place their valentine or craft item in. Again, incorporating the misfit sock theme.

There’s lots to do—also check out the Valentine Projects and Misfit Sock Forest at Misfit University for more lessons and ideas. This concept is pliable, so feel free to make any additions/changes.
