1. Decorate the pinwheel template using your imagination and artistic skills. (To make your pinwheel, you will need scissors, crayons or coloring supplies, a pin, a pencil with an eraser, and a copy of the pinwheel template)

2. Write on the back what peace means to you.

What gives you the feeling of peace and calmness? It could be a family trips, friendship, happy emotions, your favorite place or thing, family, achievements, or helping others.

Decorations- You can decorate your pinwheel on the back with lettering, a place or anything that states meaning of peace for you. Participants can write about helping other people, being kind to others, standing against bullying, service projects, or making the earth a better place by gardening or picking up litter. Doing small projects can change the world and make a more peaceful environment. On the front, you can draw, paint, collage, design and visually express your feelings.

3. Create your pinwheel by folding it together and attaching to a pencil.

4. Plant it somewhere so everyone can see it. You will need permission to plant them in a public facility.

Planting your Pinwheel- You can place your pinwheel in front of your house or gather a group together and place them all together to create a display indoors or outdoors. You can also keep your pinwheel in your room to think about your peaceful feelings or place.

5. Order your patch.

NOTE: Creating a Pinwheel- Expressing your feelings of peace on your pinwheel is not political or associated with violence. It is your expression of what peace means to you. (see above)

Pinwheels for Peace is an art project started in 2005 by two art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan at local school to express themselves using art.
