| Have
a dance or an event. Decorations could include participants
decorating their own piece of candy (such as a lollipop) or
gingerbread man. See below for some quick ideas. Focal
point coming into the event: Using poster board, several
pieces taped together, creating an arch walk through. Trim
the top to create an arch at the top. Cover the poster board
with gingerbread men, colorful gameboard pieces, hearts, various
candies, and game pieces. Hearts can be made of construction
paper or purchase some on clearance after Valentines Day.
Attach it around the doorway with packing tape. {You may want
to create it in two separate pieces so you can transport it
                    to your event.} For
extra, you can cut out gingerbread men, people from the board
game, "color blocks" from colorful posterboard,
lollipops, etc. from poster board and place it on the bottom
of the arch. ALSO, you could make a faux board game by cutting
out circles or using sheets of construction paper to lead
the guests to the entrance. Attire:
For this event you can wear anything colorful and fun. You
could also dress up like one of the characters or mix-match
your clothing (knee-hi socks, polka dots, different shoes)
to be "part of the board." Decorations
inside the facility: Decorations could include participants
decorating their own gingerbread man, lollipop, game pawn,
gumdrop, etc and placing their group name/individual names
on it. Each group could receive a template for them to use
as a pattern for the decoration. Collect decorations at the
next meeting before the dance. Before the guests arrive, tape
them on the wall behind the tables. Personal touch yet very
festive. Cuts down on cost for the event as well. Refreshments:
Festive tablecloths in bright colors should be used to cover
the table. Place a plastic basket of cookies, candies, ginger
snaps, gingerbread men, chocolates (beware of allergies!),
lollipops, and/or gumdrops on each table. You can use a wooden
dowel and cut out circles with a drawn-on swirl to make a
big lollipop, cut out gingerbread men, or use styrofoam shapes
that you paint for gumdrops to place the group name on. Water
bottles can be placed on each table with candy or gingerbread
                    themed stickers on them. Extra:
Take photos of each group or if it is a parent/daughter event
take pictures of couples. A backdrop could be a colorful or
black sheet with gingerbread men attached to it. You can also
stamp candies on the fabric as well or stencil the lettering
"A Night in Candy Land" on the backdrop. The child
could hold a gingerbread man or a large lollipop. Child sits
on stool and parent stands. |
