Note: The patch program is a guideline for the symbols that are presented on the patch. You can substitute other projects that represent these symbols. Each project does not need to be completed in specific order. The months noted are only suggested months to complete the projects. You can also have a community event and complete 3 projects in a day. Invite others to assist at your event. Example: Collect hats and mittens, food, and make shoe boxes for soldiers at your event.

SEPTEMBER - [book] Start your year out by collecting books for children in need. Older participants can assist in heading up the drive or putting backpacks together and dropping them off at designated facilities. Examples of drop locations: shelters, churches, libraries, stores, local neighborhoods, etc.

Don't forget to participate in Pinwheels for Peace in September.

Don't forget to collect glasses for Sight Night on October 31. Free flyers available on line.

OCTOBER- [costume] Put together new or gently worn Halloween costumes that can assist the local shelter or Ronald McDonald house. Contact them before you purchase or collect items to see what they need (more boys, more girls, sizes, etc.) Older participants can organize a drive for costumes, volunteer to take younger children out on Halloween, OR assist in a Halloween party.

NOVEMBER- [cans] Collect food for the needy, work in a soup kitchen, homeless shelter, collect labels or box tops for your school, stock and organize food pantries, create a thanksgiving basket and deliver it. Have a masquerade ball in the fall and collect food for the needy at the ball. Assign each group an item to bring and create bags of groceries for those in need. Deliver them. Have a party or send cards to give thanks to others.

You have two choices for December this year. For those that cannot purchase presents they can teach younger children songs or sing carols at assisted living home.

DECEMBER- [Present and Music Note] Purchase items to place to create stockings for children or soldiers. You can also organize a holiday party at a family shelter to give these stockings or presents away. Sing songs at the elderly or assisted living home OR host a holiday party for younger children or less fortunate. You can also give out small gifts you collected or created. Call ahead to see how many will be in attendance. Directions on how to create scarves.

JANUARY- [art supplies] Collect art supplies for places that house children or provide them to families with children. Teach younger children different art techniques, help someone learn a new art medium, or simply give a coloring book and crayons to a needy child. Older participants can complete arts and crafts with the elderly, homeless shelters, or hold a drive and create bags of art supplies for the less fortunate.

FEBRUARY- [apron] Create your own bread or cookies to send to a food bank, family in need, or elderly home. Visit place and make cards to go with your special treats. For extra, you can earn the Spread the Bread or Traveling Apron patches. Older participants can host a spread the bread event/food drive for your neighborhood or group. Have each participate bring a boxed bread/muffin mix. Take turns making bread in rotations, another rotation could be making cards, decorating a container or signing the traveling apron.

MARCH- [Apron] Make your own birthday bags for children that can't afford birthday treats. Examples to include are: cake mix, icing, tablecloth, a gift, gift wrap, etc. These bags can be dropped off at the local food banks. Older participants can host a birthday event and collect assigned items from participants and create the bags to distribute. Another option is to host a birthday party at an elderly home or homeless shelter, serve cake, and give out small birthday presents to all the attendees. APRIL-[bone] Collect items or volunteers your time at a shelter. Sew together blankets or animal beds. Make homemade dog biscuits and toys. Volunteer at a zoo event. Have an animal themed party and collect donations from the local shelters list. Volunteer to pet sit or walk someone's dog. Items to donate: food dishes, grooming supplies, treats, food, litter, collars, leashes, toys, etc. Click here on how to make easy fleece blankets.

MAY-[basket] Make baskets for women's shelters or assisted living homes. That donate their time to help children. Examples on what to include are: shower gel, scented lotions, face wash, nail polish, magazines, make up samples, etc. puzzle books, razors, gum, hair accessories, shampoo, etc. Older participants could hold a drive or event and have the participants be assigned items to bring to the event, create the baskets, deliver the baskets, and possibly host a luncheon or event at the shelter.

JUNE- [game pieces] Collect new games for facilities that house children or provide them to families with children. Teach younger children games, play BINGO with the elderly, donate games or puzzle books to assisted living homes. You can also play games at camps. Older participants could volunteer as a program aide at camp, play games with children at a shelter or reach out program, teach younger children games or help them earn a game related badge.

STAR - You are a star for helping others in your community. Choose a project that you enjoy. Examples: Share your gifts with others (such as language, art, science etc.); donate items to an orphanage; paint a mural in a shelter or community center; make decorations for a social event; offer to be a mother's helper or help the elderly.

HEART- Pick a project that gives of your heart. Choose a project that is lasting and loving.
